An Important Statement From the
Franklin Square Civic Association
Recent events have compelled our organization to examine and take action against the multifaceted nature of racism in the United States and in our Community. Racism is dehumanizing to everyone it touches. The Franklin Square Civic Association has a zero-tolerance policy for racism, prejudice and discrimination of individuals or groups at all levels of our organization. We do not condone or endorse the actions, behavior of, or posts from, individuals, in public, on social media, or any other media outlet. Actions and, or, social media posts by any individual member of our organization do not represent the views of the organization as a whole. The Franklin Square Civic Association encourages diversity and the pursuit of equality amongst all members of our community.
A Note From The President
At the end of May, the FSCA had our second Virtual General Meeting on Zoom broadcast live on Facebook. We thank those of you who joined us for supporting our organization. At this meeting, we were fortunate to have Jeanine Driscoll, Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes join us to answer some questions by general members. She also graciously offered to communicate any concerns or questions we had to Supervisor Clavin and Councilman’s Blakeman and Muscarella. We were delighted to have her attend. She spoke about what the town has done to make it easier and safer for residents to pay their taxes, including setting up several remote drive through booths around the Town of Hempstead. She also spoke about the plan the Town has for reopening and keeping both their employees and visitors safe. We thank her for her attendance and look forward to future visits with Ms. Driscoll and our other town representatives.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, we were able to continue our tradition of honoring our service men and women who over the years have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our right to freedom. At Rath park, we hung our customary flags on the Gazebo and together, with our friends at the Franklin Square Historical Society and the Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce, we hung our bunting along the fence. Frank Culmone, our Treasurer, placed our wreath in front of the towns War Memorial. Overall, even though the day looked a little different without our town parade down Hempstead Turnpike or the crowds gathered at the memorial, it was a somber day filled with reflection and respect.
Also over the long weekend, the FSCA was able to install our Home Town Hero Banners at the VFW and at Rath Park. This year program organizer and Correspondence Secretary Adrienne McKenna included banners to honor not only our service men and women and first responders, but also our heath care workers. We shall be eternally grateful for all those who serve and protect our communities in times of need. If you have not visited the VFW on Lincoln Road already, please do so. There may still be time to order a banner for your own Hometown Hero and have it installed as we still have a few spots left.
At our May 27th meeting we were able to respond to several questions posed by members and the community from the April 28th general meeting. We also took a few new ones. One question in particular came up at both meetings and that was whether or not their existed a possibility that in the future Franklin Square could have a dog park installed at some location. While the Civic cannot sponsor, fund, or advocate for one, we are happy to survey our members and local residents to gauge interest. That survey is forthcoming.
As always, we urge you to reach out to the FSCA with any questions, comments or concerns you may have via our website. We also encourage you to reach out to us, given the unprecedented circumstances we are all experiencing, for any help you may need and we would be happy to provide it if we can.
